The Challenge

A local care home in Halifax called Shredco UK after searching for ‘local shredding companies’ on Google.

They said they had a lot of printed paper that needed to be shredded to comply with the new GDPR law that came into force May 2018. [1]

The documents that they had collected over the last 14 months was private information about their residents and family members. There was a lot of confidential information on old prescriptions and medication.

All of this information was no longer needed as the residents were no longer in the care of the home. Therefore they asked Shredco UK to safely destroy the information on their behalf.

care home shredding to be gdpr compliant

The Solution

Shredco UK agreed to a bulk shredding service with an immediate next day site visit for the care home. This was at the request of the customer.

We have daily site visits to Halifax town centre so we were easily able to add the care home to our rota for that day.

Regular Shredding Service

Within a few days Shredco UK received a call from the same care home business but from head office. They had a management meeting and agreed that Shredco UK should service all their locations on a regular basis.

This meant that all the care homes would now have a regular shredding service. We installed lockable paper waste bins at each location. These bins are for the workers to securely dispose of all confidential paper documents. On a fortnightly basis Shredco UK would visit all the sites in Halifax, St. Helens, Middlesborough and Wetherby.
